The Company was originally established in1986 as a full-service promotion and marketing agency, Specialty Promotions, Inc.(now Schnitzer Communications, Inc.). The Company quickly built a reputation for implementing non-traditional book promotion and marketing programs, which enjoyed great success. A dozen projects achieved a #1 ranking on the New York Times Best Sellers list. More than 50,000,000 books were sold as part of a Schnitzer-designed and implemented promotion. In 1993, the Company entered the publishing arena with its own imprint, Premium Press America (PPA).

Since then, PPA has realized steady growth releasing more than 150 gift/souvenir, mass-market, trade and private label titles. Combining customized point-of-purchase materials, PPA creates niche-marketed titles for a variety of specialty outlets. For the most part, PPA ships books on a non-returnable basis or licenses direct to the customer.

PPA distributes its gift/souvenir and trade publications through a growing network of individual specialty distributors (go to Specialty Marketing Systems) who supply independent gift shops, book stores, and specialty outlets including private parks, historical sites, museums, exhibits, re-enactments, theme parks, entertainment and sporting venues, hotels, florists, souvenir and tourist destinations, civic clubs, humane associations and pet rescue groups, schools, airports, hospitals, bait shops, boat docks and more.

PPA distributes trade titles through major book wholesale chains including Ingram Books, American Wholesale Book Company and direct to retail chains Barnes & Noble, Borders/Waldenbooks, Books-A-Million and Hastings.

PPA gift/souvenir titles are often used by non-profit groups, business and government agencies for fund-raising and premiums or reformatted to meet the organization’s particular needs.

PPA was among the eariest publishers to design and license gift titles for Hallmark Gift Books. To date, a million PPA books have sold through Hallmark’s 15,000-plus rooftops.

PPA produced one of the fastest growing lines of romance novels in the country and received an IPPY Gold Medal from the Independent Publishers Association for its first title release Mistress in Training. In 2006, the Romance Writers Association recognized PPA as one of the top 40 romance publishers in the country. PPA received orders for more than 1,250,000 books in its first year in the romance market.

SCI/PPA has been the lead coordinator for projects involving such notables as Art Linkletter, Warren Buffet, Walter Cronkite, H. Jackson Brown, Jr., diet guru Dr. Martin Katahn, and Drs. Richard and Rachael Heller.
